The Garage Museum of Contemporary Art has published a book about Yerevan's Soviet modernist architecture. Architectural historians Anna Bronovitskaya and Elena Markus, as well as architectural photographer Yuri Palmin, will arrive in Yerevan to present the book, which they have been working on for over five years. How did the authors select the buildings for their study, from the extremely laconic Khachatur Abovyan House-Museum to the monumental Sports and Concert Complex? What unexpected discoveries did they encounter? What distinguishes Yerevan modernism from Moscow, Leningrad, Almaty, and Tashkent modernism, which are the subjects of other books in the series, and what similarities are there with them? The authors and the scientific editor of the publication, Karen Balyan, who also wrote the opening historical-urban planning essay for the book, will discuss these and other questions with the managing editor, Olga Dubitskaya. The book will be available for purchase at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts store. During the presentation, special architectural photographs taken by Yuri Palmin will be displayed, including some not included in the book. The language of the event is Russian. Due to limited space, participation is possible only with prior registration.
